Various articles on working, or not.

WORKING SUCKS by Tim Righteous

Tim Righteous (not his real name I am sure) wrote this years ago and suggests a number of different alternatives to working. On reading it now, it comes across as very radical zero hour work week concept. I think Tim Ferris's Four Hour Work Week works better for me. Maybe if Mr Righteous was re-writing his article again, now that the internet has taken over everything, I wonder if it would be closer to Mr. Ferris's book.

The artice does have a little (understatement) of an anti-capitalist slant. Personally I can filter the crap from the seeds of sense, and find grains of humour in it. Some people cannot. If you get offended by anything off the straight and narrow then the best bet is not to click on the link.

"..squatting (living for free in abandoned buildings), shoplifting food, foraging for food, and using advanced dumpster diving techniques to live on practically no money at all. " is one of the many suggestions that Mr Righteous gives for when your job sucks. I'd go for ZERMUX.

AIMS AND AIDS for Girls and Young Women,
on THE VARIOUS DUTIES OF LIFE,

By Rev. G. S. Weaver IN THE YEAR 1855

Okay. In these modern days this particular article is not as relevant as it once was. It is, however, interesting to read a 1855 perspective on working. The Rev. Weaver was very pro working, his opening paragraph contains "A man with no Employment, nothing to do, is scarcely a man". Bear in mind it was written in 1855, when women did not as much equality as they do today. His views, however, are very pro equality.

Subjects covered are:

  • Employment a Duty
  • Powers Developed by Labor
  • All Females are not Women
  • Dependence Usually Ignoble
  • Adversity gives Strength
  • Girls should have Trades
  • Self-reliance necessary to Women
  • Do Something and Be Something
  • Riches no Excuse for Idleness
  • Employment gives Activity and Strength
  • Labor considered Vulgar
  • Life is given for Employment
  • Woman was Made for Usefulness
